EXPLORE COACHING METHODS (OUTCOME)
20220721 Module 18
Key Idea: Coaching Models help with the flow, offering structure & outline for both the coaching conversation and the overall journey.
In class today, we were introduced to several Coaching Models. “Why Models?” You ask? Well, Coaching Models give us a framework or a structure. It gives the Coaching journey or conversation, better direction & focus. It’s nice and reassuring to know you are headed somewhere tangible, and not just wandering around aimlessly. There is no need to reinvent the wheel. If something works, use it. But if it becomes flat / dated, then update it.
The following are Models made available in our class notes.
1. GROW Model
2. FUEL Model
3. OSKAR Model
There are many other models out there, and later we as coach in training will also be attempting to create our own Coaching model. But the takeaway from the class is to remember that these models only provide the (skeletal) structure on which the conversation builds. Do not hold too rigidly to the models that you become transactional and non-relational. Take your time, slow down, and listen to what is being said. Be flexible. Don’t do Coaching, but BE the Coach.
“Chinese Bamboo very strong, very flexible.” - Jackie Chan.
